Photos of Mythical Sony Ericsson Xperia Playstation Phone UnveiledSony has denied the existence of Playstation phone, but a web site in China has posted 61 pictures of the elusive device, which clearly has the logo of Xperia, Sony Ericsson’s high-end line of phones, on its back and control panel.

The pictures show a phone with a 4-inch touch-screen display with a slide-out game console. The site reports that the phone comes in black and white, boasts an 8-megapixel camera, 720p video recording, and a micro SD card slot. It also claims that the chip is at least 1GHz and will run on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). The device is approximately the same size and shape as the current Sony Playstation portable (PSP) handheld console.

A phone with gaming controls won’t be for everyone, but there is a potential PSP gaming market which isn’t being served by current devices and applications, and there is a niche – but loyal – fan base already established.

Along with the Verizon iPhone, which is expected to be announced this week, the Playstation cell phone is one of the worst kept secrets in the mobile phone world. Experts are convinced the Playstation phone, also known as “Zeus Z1” exists, and that it will be released early this year.
