In a new report, Sony Ericsson, a consumer electronics and telecommunications company that manufactures mobile phones, is said to be more deeply invested in Windows Phone 7 than the manufacturer has let on in the past. A Windows Phone from Sony Ericsson (News – Alert) has been rumored for months, but the phone maker for a while wouldn’t confirm its plans, saying only that it was looking into Microsoft’s (News – Alert) new mobile OS as a possible platform for future devices. A new venture of this sort would definitely increase consumer interest in its smartphones.
In related news, Sony Ericsson, a dealer in mobile communication and entertainment, unveiled its Xperia arc smartphone that combines advanced Sony technology with the latest version of the Android (News – Alert) platform 2.3 (Gingerbread). The Xperia arc is the newest Xperia phone announced in 2011 and is designed to offer exceptional multimedia experience and visual brilliance.
The lightweight phone is just 8.7mm thin and has a 4.3-inch multi-touchscreen display powered by the latest Mobile Bravia Engine that delivers exceptional visual brilliance and a crystal clear image, which enhances the overall entertainment experience.
Users can also access Google (News – Alert) Mobile Services and the myriad of applications available on the Android market and also capture images or record videos using the phone’s 8.1 Mega Pixel “Exmor R” for mobile sensor with f/2.4 camera lens. The videos can be viewed on HDTVs using the built-in HDMI connector.
In a press release, Bert Nordberg, president of Sony Ericsson, commented that the company is starting strong in 2011 by unveiling its most exciting Xperia product yet. The company said the Xperia arc blends state-of-the-art Sony technology with breathtaking design to entertain and wow consumers.

According to reports, the much-hyped Microsoft Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system will likely be launched on October 10 – with the software giant having planned a launch event in London, and probably even New York City, on the mentioned date.
With the speculations about both the events suggesting that Windows Phone 7 will be unveiled simultaneously in Europe and the US, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) has reported that Microsoft, along with some help from carrier AT&T, is expected to unveil a line of Windows Phone 7 handsets that will hit AT&T shelves four weeks after the launch.
The WSJ report, citing unnamed `inside’ sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans, said that the Windows Phone 7 smartphones will go on sale during the November 8 week; and Microsoft and AT&T will offer three handsets at launch – one each from Samsung, HTC, and LG.
In the opinion of most analysts, Windows Phone 7 marks Mircosoft’s latest attempt to catch up with Apple iPhone as well as Google’s Android smartphones, after having squandered its market-leading position in only a few years.
Noting that Microsoft is banking heavily on Windows Phone 7, analyst Bryan Keane, of Alpine Mutual Funds, said: “The product can’t be an also-ran that just does everything that is already out in the marketplace. Right now, it isn’t apparent that Windows 7 is better than anything that’s out there, except that it might have a better tie-in to the actual Windows platform.”
