Windows Phone 7 reportedly launching on October 10!
Oct 2nd
According to reports, the much-hyped Microsoft Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system will likely be launched on October 10 – with the software giant having planned a launch event in London, and probably even New York City, on the mentioned date.
With the speculations about both the events suggesting that Windows Phone 7 will be unveiled simultaneously in Europe and the US, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) has reported that Microsoft, along with some help from carrier AT&T, is expected to unveil a line of Windows Phone 7 handsets that will hit AT&T shelves four weeks after the launch.
The WSJ report, citing unnamed `inside’ sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans, said that the Windows Phone 7 smartphones will go on sale during the November 8 week; and Microsoft and AT&T will offer three handsets at launch – one each from Samsung, HTC, and LG.
In the opinion of most analysts, Windows Phone 7 marks Mircosoft’s latest attempt to catch up with Apple iPhone as well as Google’s Android smartphones, after having squandered its market-leading position in only a few years.
Noting that Microsoft is banking heavily on Windows Phone 7, analyst Bryan Keane, of Alpine Mutual Funds, said: “The product can’t be an also-ran that just does everything that is already out in the marketplace. Right now, it isn’t apparent that Windows 7 is better than anything that’s out there, except that it might have a better tie-in to the actual Windows platform.”
