Spice Launches 3D Phone for Rs. 4299
Oct 25th
After conquering the cinema theatres, TV sets, computers and cameras, 3D seems to have broken another bastion with its entry into handsets. Budget mobile phone manufacturer Spice Mobile has released what it terms, India’s first 3D phone christened View D.
Listed officially as M-67 3D, the phone will feature a 2.4-inch auto-stereoscopic display, which is a fancy name for 3D displays that don’t require stereoscopic goggles. Spice, however, doesn’t mention the exact kind of auto-stereoscopic technology employed in the LCD screen, but almost all of them have limited viewing angles, which is not a problem for cell phones though. The phone is also dual SIM (GSM+GSM) capable.
The 3D display is complemented by 3D enabled video player, image viewer, and a 3D capable user interface. Also bundled is a 2 megapixel camera, FM radio, 3.5 mm audio jack, and memory that is expandable up to 16GB. Priced at Rs. 4,299, the handset will be sold through 50,000 retail outlets, including 750 Spice HotSpot stores.

Spice Mobile launches India’s first 3D phone
Oct 24th
New Delhi: Handset maker Spice Mobility on Sunday said it has launched the country’s first 3D display mobile phone, View D, priced at Rs 4,299.
View D will allow users to experience images and videos in 3D without the 3D glasses, making it very convenient for a common user.
“With growing popularity of 3D content and devices, this is one segment we wanted to tap. We have created this new device for people looking for smart mobile phones,” Spice Mobility Vice President (Marketing) Naveen Paul told a news agency.
The company is looking at selling 20,000-30,000 units per month of View D, he added.
In the competitive Indian market, handset makers are looking at innovations to drive sales.
“One has to keep innovating to offer the market compelling products, but at reasonable price points as India is a price-conscious market,” Paul said.
According to IDC, 38.63 million handsets were sold in India during April-June 2010.
Asked about the lack of 3D content in India, Paul said, “In India, 3D is catching up and soon there would be more devices which support 3D and with that content would also come in.”
The handset is equipped with a 2.4-inch 3D display screen, two megapixel camera, FM Radio, MP3 player and expandable memory up to 16GB.
View D’s screen is designed in a way that allows the user to toggle between a normal 2D or 3D user interface. It also has a ‘remote wipe’ feature, which allows users to delete the data stored on their phones remotely, in case of loss of handset.
Targetted at the metros and Tier I cities, the company will also launch a new television commercial along with other promotional activities for the product.
The handset would be available through more than 50,000 retail points, including 750 Spice HotSpot retail stores.

Windows 7 phone gets Old Spice treatment
Oct 20th
He shot to fame as the shirtless hunk in the new commercials for Old Spice but Isaiah Mustafa has now apparently swapped smells for smart phones.
The 36-year-old media sensation, who has been viewed more than 150 million times on YouTube, is in Sydney to help launch the new Windows 7 mobile phone.
MONEY: Old Spice’s sweet smell of success
Mustafa, a former American football star, was thrust onto the global stage earlier this year when Old Spice presented him in a new campaign as “the man your man could smell like”.
The video ads were an instant hit, prompting appearances on the Oprah Winfrey Show and earning Mustafa an exclusive talent deal with television giant NBC.
“Overnight, I became one of the most hit on men on the internet, so it just shows you the power of social media,” Mustafa said during surfing lessons today on Bondi Beach.
“I never expected my life would change so quickly, but here I am Down Under for the launch of Windows Phone, soaking up the sun and ‘surfing’ with Aussie lifesavers.”
The new phone goes on sale tomorrow and will be available on Telstra, Optus and Vodafone.
